On April 5, 2025, the City of Mostar once again proved that it does not forget its true friends. The children of Jerrie Hulme, the former UNHCR chief during the war in Mostar, visited the city and met with Hulme’s friends from that time, as well as the President of the City Council, Đani Rahimić.

In a heartfelt ceremony, the Center for Peace and Multiethnic Cooperation posthumously awarded Jerrie Hulme the honorary title "Brave Heart of Mostar." The recognition was signed by Safet Oručević, Director of the Center for Peace; Đani Rahimić, President of the City Council; and Alija Behram, Chairman of the Center’s Board.

The Hulme family also donated a special medal Jerrie had received from the United Nations for his mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This medal will be permanently displayed at the Center for Peace.

Earlier that day, family members, representatives of the Center, the City Council, and Hulme’s friends visited the memorial fountain dedicated to Jerrie Hulme at the Mostar Bus Station, where they laid flowers and paid tribute to his memory.

"We share the same emotions when we remember Jerrie Hulme. He truly is a 'Brave Heart of Mostar,' one of the precious souls to whom we owe immense gratitude. He did so much good for our city during the hardest times. Mostar does not forget its friends — and Jerrie Hulme will never be forgotten," said Alija Behram during the reception.

Safet Oručević, the wartime mayor of Mostar, also recalled Hulme’s invaluable contributions:
"He was not only a humanitarian but also a vital source of information. Important figures relied on him. He clearly recognized who the aggressor was and who the victims were, and he always stood by the victims. His stay in Mostar was invaluable, and the memory of Jerrie Hulme will live on forever."

Among those attending this commemorative event was Adnan Hasić, representing the URI Europe, Balkan as a Soul Bridge CC. His presence emphasized the ongoing efforts to preserve and build bridges of peace, understanding, and gratitude in the Balkans.
