After the URI Europe Assembly that was held in Lienz, Austria, two radio broadcasts were shared on local radio stations in the German language.
URI Europe meeting in Lienz: International recognition for aid project in Syria
URI stands for United Religions Initiative - this is a worldwide association of religious communities.
In Austria, Elisabeth Ziegler-Duregger from Lienz is the representative of this initiative and she receives international recognition for her aid projects.
Representatives from 17 countries will take part in the URI European meeting in Lienz next weekend (September 29th to October 1st). The former library director had the story “The Little Owl” by the Austrian author Lene Mayer-Skumanz translated into several languages 25 years ago. There are now 45 versions for 173 countries around the world, and the Little Owl was also the starting point for an East Tyrolean aid project in a refugee camp in Syria a year and a half ago.
This project was awarded the UN Silver Medal for Interreligious Dialogue last year. Further information can be found on the homepage of the “Education Brings Peace” association.
A tree for peace at the Lienz military cemetery
Last weekend the European meeting of the URI (United Religions Initiative) took place in Lienz.
Some of the participants will be in Lienz until the end of the week.
Elisabeth Ziegler-Duregger’s Lienz association “Education Brings Peace” is one of a total of 60 URI member
organizations in Europe.
The working meeting was used for mutual exchange and networking. The program also included a visit to the peace bell at the Lienz Hochstein, and the participants from 18 countries planted a pine tree together at the military cemetery in Lienz.
This should now grow for peace and remember the European meeting of religious communities in Lienz for a long time to come.
