Baraza CC, Yazda, Al Amana Center, Free Yezidi Foundation and URI Europe organized the webinar “After genocide - the Yezidis recovery from religious persecution”
This event was part of the UN’s International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief and it was held on Tuesday 24th August 2021 on the ZOOM platform.

Unfortunately, Sebastian Maisel and Heider Elias were unable to participate, so the speaker at the webinar was Hewan Omer.
Hewan Omer, Free Yezidi Foundation Country Director: Hewan holds a B.A in English Language and Literature, from the University of Duhok, Kurdistan. She started her humanitarian career in 2016 as a Translator for Warvin Foundation for Women’s Issues in Khanke Non-Camp, Duhok, providing accurate translation and working closely with beneficiaries processing trauma. She then went on to be an English language instructor in Ronahi High School for IDP’s in Sharya, Kurdistan. In 2017, she started working at the University of Duhok (Institute of Psychotherapy) as a Secretary providing administrative support to both faculty and students. In 2017, Hewan joined the Free Yezidi Foundation as Country Coordinator, where she managed administrative duties and activities for the FYF Women’s Center. Hewan was in charge of creating a master schedule for students, attending vocational skills classes, liaising with both internal and external contacts, including journalists, as well as interacting with beneficiaries. In mid-2019, Hewan was promoted to Country Director. Today, Hewan is the face of FYF in Iraq, leading the staff by example and showing Yezidi women and the community what women can do.
