When you let go, the problem takes care of itself!

URI Europe Proverb March 2016

When you let go, the problem takes care of itself!

"Sleep on it", is a saying that is ingrained in our daily speech. It invites us to let difficulties sink in, to let go. For us Westerners this is demanding, thus not easy.

We want to understand why things are the way they are.

We Westerners are stuck in the firm logic of Enlightenment-thinking: "I think and therefore I am." The logic that each question can be answered and every problem solved is embedded in our genes. We worry endlessly until it drives us crazy. We think we can solve everything with our mind. We want to control. And this makes us prisoners. We would rather go around in circles than admit that in fact we don't know.

It can be liberating to admit: I don't know.

Even stronger: it can be a first step towards a liberating answer. Human beings are part of a life‑dynamics in which the changeable, the unpredictable and the incomprehensible have a dominant position.

There are easy times and difficult times, ups and downs. Stop putting your brains on the almighty throne of 'ability' and 'knowledge'. Stop puzzling. For a while.

What did I make so much fuss about?

What seems like an insurmountable problem today, may have lost its importance tomorrow. What is terrible today, may become a new perspective tomorrow when looked upon from a different angle. The invitation of life therefore is: let go for a while, dare to fly blind. In other words: give "life" a chance.

"Stop putting your brains on the almighty throne of 'ability' and 'knowledge'. Stop puzzling. For a while".
